Everyone knows how to wash their T-shirts and pants. But when it comes to bra laundry, some have a hard time. But bra washing is actually quite simple. Here is the most important information about what you should consider when cleaning your lingerie.

Important: New bras should be washed before wearing. On the one hand, there may still be chemical residues from dyes and the like in the laundry that irritates the skin, and on the other hand, the underwear comes into contact with many hands and thus also bacteria and potential pathogens.

Bra wash: Hand wash or washing machine?

The gentlest way to wash bras (especially preformed bras) is by hand. This allows bras to retain their fit for a particularly long time and not wear out as quickly.

Simply fill a bowl or the sink with lukewarm water and add a blob of mild detergent for hand washing. Then let the bra soak a little and then rinse well with cold water.

If you have little time or are just too comfortable, you can also wash your bra in the washing machine. In general, always pay attention to the information on the care label.

Wash bra in the washing machine: Do not forget the washing net!

If you want to wash your bra in the washing machine, then always use a laundry bag or laundry net (here on Amazon). Especially with underwire bras, the underwires can come loose and damage the washing machine and the rest of the laundry. Don't you have a laundry net? Then a pillowcase will do.

In addition, be sure to close the hooks so that they can not catch on to other fabrics. Also important: The shells should not be turned inwards. You can also use a washing ball to be on the safe side.

In addition, the following applies to bra washing:

1. Sort your bra by color to avoid discoloration.

2. Don't pack the washing machine too full so that the bra keeps its shape. It's better to wash along with small, light laundry items rather than large, heavy items such as towels or bedding.

3. Self-adhesive bras, cup bras, lace bras or silk bras should never be washed in the washing machine.

How hot should I wash my bra?

Bras should be washed on the "hand wash" or "gentle cycle" cycle and, if possible, should not be spun. Unlike socks, which can also be washed at 60 degrees, bras should not be washed above 40 degrees - 30 degrees is even better. Even these, in combination with detergent (or hygiene rinse) are quite sufficient for the bra to become clean and germ-free.

Which detergent is suitable?

A gentle mild detergent is optimal for bra laundry. Mild baby shampoo is also suitable. However, you should definitely stay away from fabric softener, because it can attack the elastic fibers of your bra.

There is also a special detergent for lingerie (store here on Amazon). This is particularly gentle on the delicate materials.

How do I dry my bra properly?

Very important: The bra must never be put in the dryer! This can cause bras, especially underwire bras, to wear out and lose their shape. After washing, you should first carefully pull your bra into shape. The cups and the underbust band should never be in a twisted state.

Afterwards, simply let the bra air dry on a clotheshorse or clothesline. However, avoid direct sunlight or heating air - both cause the fibers to fade.

How often should I wash my bra?

How often you should wash your bra depends on several factors. Do you sweat a lot, is it very warm or have you been exercising? Then you should wash your bra after every wear. Otherwise, after every third to fifth wear is enough. Washing too often can damage the fibers.

It is also recommended not to wear the bra for several consecutive days, but to let it rest or air every now and then for a day.
