Making the Most of Your Wardrobe

Optimizing your own wardrobe is not difficult at all. Every woman wishes for a fresh breeze to create a new look and often complains about having a closet full of nothing to wear...

...even though the closet is overflowing. That's why I'll show you how to optimize your wardrobe with simple measures, which fashion must-haves are worth it, and how to mix and match old favorites.

How to Optimize Your Wardrobe: To make the most of your wardrobe, you should first ensure structure and order. It's best to start by decluttering anything you haven't worn in a year or two because there's nothing more confusing than an overcrowded wardrobe.

Next, get rid of anything that no longer fits or has become truly outdated. For certain pieces, like a timeless evening dress or a classic leather jacket, it's worth keeping them, even if you wear them only occasionally.

Sort out item by item, starting with T-shirts, then sweaters, pants, and so on. Celebrate your successes to keep you motivated.

You can also sort just one category, like T-shirts, per day, so you don't have a huge pile in front of you.

Consider which styles suit you and what you need. What can be mixed and matched or worn again with a small alteration?

What to Remove from Your Wardrobe: Items that are too tight are unlikely to fit again unless you regularly fluctuate in weight. Otherwise, store these pieces in a garment bag in the attic. If you do happen to gain or lose five pounds, try them on again and mix them with current pieces.

With classics, this is certainly easier than with trendy items that often lose their appeal after a few years. It's better to sell expensive, high-quality clothing and invest the money in high-quality new basics that will last. Sustainability always pays off with quality clothing.

Optimizing Your Wardrobe - A Tip for Creating New Combinations: After decluttering, lay out all your good pants side by side on the bed, like a fan, and put your sweaters/shirts on top of them. This way, you can quickly see which colors/styles complement each other and what can be combined differently.

Take photos of your favorite combinations and save them on your phone. This will be a wonderful memory aid.

Don't Be Afraid of Color! While decluttering, you might realize that you prefer wearing black, gray, dark blue, and beige? This can sometimes affect your mood. So, dare to add some color!

Even at work, you can use red, purple, or green and combine them beautifully with other basic colors like dark blue, gray, sand, and black. Whether you choose a cool or warm shade of red or salmon doesn't matter much; the color should complement your skin tone. Look for shades that make your skin glow, like a deep, rich berry purple that many women can wear and looks somewhat mysterious.

The brown color trend has been everywhere lately: From camel to caramel to dark chocolate. Lighter shades like camel or cognac work well for many color types and can create interesting new color combinations. Try pairing light blue with deer brown or stone gray with dark brown! It looks very stylish and intriguing. Here are 5 tips on how to incorporate the color brown into your wardrobe.

Or you can combine bold contrasting colors like red and blue or blue and green.

Giving Your Look a Fresh Spin Without Completely Rebuilding Your Wardrobe: The fresh spin is particularly beautiful when it becomes unique, and you don't have to reinvent it every season. Your own style, combined with some items from the current fashion and interesting accessories, adds a personal and unique touch. Think of fashion as a buffet that you can choose from. Because your personal style is something very individual that you develop slowly, step by step. Ask yourself first:

Where Can I Find Inspiration for New Outfits? Take some time to consider your taste. For example, create a Pinterest board and collect all the fashion photos you like. Then compare these photos and think about what you can adopt for yourself.

Often, just one exciting piece is enough to make an outfit interesting: a unique scarf, red shoes, a blue handbag, or intriguing belts. Play with small color contrasts while sticking to a maximum of three colors per outfit.

Do You Have These 10 Basics in Your Wardrobe? Depending on age and body type, every woman faces different daily challenges, so a mother with young children may need different basics than a woman who travels frequently for business. However, there are clothing items that are always easy to combine and can create a variety of outfits. Here are some good basics for many:

  1. A striped shirt
  2. A trench coat
  3. A pair of ankle boots
  4. A cozy cardigan
  5. Ankle-length pants
  6. A striped T-shirt
  7. A classic black blazer
  8. Well-fitting jeans
  9. White sneakers
  10. A casual white blouse

My Personal Tip for Wardrobe Optimization: To avoid making purchases you'll regret and ending up with unworn items, take photos of your favorite outfits after decluttering and create a photo album on your smartphone. This way, you won't forget your outfits. Additionally, every new item in your wardrobe should be able to be used in at least 3 different looks to justify the purchase.
