In 8 Steps to Your Own Style

In 8 steps to your own style

In the city, the great outfits shine at us from the shop windows. They tempt us and want to be bought. But it is not uncommon for them to end up as corpses in your own closet because there is nothing suitable there.

We don't manage to style a good outfit out of them. Either it's too chic, too well-behaved or doesn't suit the occasion. So the wardrobe grows full of “nothing to wear” and leads to dissatisfaction.

Most wear only 20% of what they have in their closet

Why? We buy too much, unconsciously, too small and the wrong thing. But how can sustainable fashion consumption succeed? So what really matters when it comes to finding your own style?

Would you like to find your own style?

This requires dealing with what makes you who you are. Because mannequins or fashion spreads in magazines can inspire you or encourage you to buy, but they don't know who you are, what your everyday life looks like and what suits you.

Once you dive in and set out on your journey to finding your own style, it'll be quicker than you think. I experience this every day in my offline and online style consultations.

You also develop further in life - at 30, 40, 50 you are a different personality. I therefore recommend that you keep reflecting on yourself and your own looks. The basic features of your own style remain the same, but sometimes you feel: "It just doesn't suit me anymore!"

1. Who are you?

Your attitude and values are the foundation of your style. You can throw yourself into even such a chic outfit, if it doesn't suit you and you don't feel comfortable in it, it's all useless. You certainly know the feeling of "that's not me".
Think about what you like about yourself and use clothing and accessories to focus on what you particularly like: neck, décolleté, waist, legs or hands, etc.

Having your own style also means communicating with the environment and showing an unmistakable character.

How is your personality and the current emotional state? Clear, calm, lively or playful? You can wear that to the outside with your own style. Your look conveys your personality and this can also be used very well for positioning at work. Use this chance.

What makes you special?

"I'm extroverted, lively, demanding, natural, somewhat romantic and very structured," a customer once said to me.
It's not about showing each and every one of these characteristics to the outside world. Especially since there are different occasions and you slip into “roles”. But with the awareness of your characteristics, your style becomes authentic and genuine.

An example:

If, for example, quality, sustainability and naturalness are important to you, it becomes clear that high-quality clothing made from natural materials suits you. Cheap fashion and polyester clothing from third world countries, which is produced by miserably paid seamstresses, is then not the right choice.

With your own style, you can look at fashion trends in a much more relaxed manner and instead show your own facets. My style advice supports you in making the best of you visible. It's not enough to wrap yourself in a shawl, my advice goes deeper and is holistic, because I want to strengthen people's personality and show them how beautiful they can look.

The big advantage of your own style

You will go through life more diverse and with more charisma. You will know which clothes suit you, look good and how to show the different sides of your personality. You will become more secure, self-confident and independent.

You get compliments and a satisfied look in the mirror. You can use this in your private life and at work. You could even create a “signature” style or become a brand.

Do you want to be fashionably dressed?

No problem. See fashion like a buffet from which you can help yourself: there are items of clothing that always work; those that only suit you in moderation and new things that you might try out: colors, shapes and accessories for your own style.

Don't make yourself dependent on short-term trends, take what suits you from the buffet. This gives your wardrobe a fashionable kick without stress.

2. Your body shape and assets

Unfortunately, many women's own body perception is not very objective. We are critical, want to be the pear or hourglass type and get rules for suitable cuts. But 50% of women do not fit into any of these five body types. They are mixtures or just have a great balanced figure!

It is much more important to recognize which regions of your body you particularly like and want to emphasize. This way you can better decide which garments and silhouettes flatter you. Does a classic waist fit, or do straight-cut dresses suit you better? Do you love your legs or the dokelleté?

Learn how to use clothing so that it fits you very well, emphasizes your figure optimally and conceals unloved areas. If the fashion you are buying NEVER fits you, then a good tailor is your best friend. Because only if the clothes fit really well do you look good in them.

3. Your best basics, the classics

Your taste in fashion will change over the years and from time to time you will want to try something new. But there are items of clothing in which you will always look great: a certain pair of jeans, a sweater, a blouse, slim-fitting pants, maybe a slightly tailored dress or a leather jacket. This creates your own style. In principle, your outfits should be based on pieces that you feel so comfortable in that you can wear and combine them again and again.

If you z. For example, if you like reduced looks, also known as "minimal chic", in blue, gray or beige, you should invest in beautiful materials and play with small accessories: A delicate but unusual necklace, shoes or colored lipstick set interesting accents.

4. Take a look at others

Finding your own style is not about copying other outfits. But style icons whose style is similar to yours can be a great inspiration. It helps to find inspiration in movies, on the street, in your circle of friends or on Pinterest. Easily collect pictures online.
Create pinboards for specific occasions, seasons or special trend topics and transfer them to outfits for yourself. This can be done with colours, individual items of clothing, accessories or entire silhouettes.

5. Wear colors

Colors have a tremendous impact on ourselves and others. You can see and feel them. Some days you will feel great in a red dress, other days you will feel completely uncomfortable. Your mood has a big impact on how well a color suits you on any given day. Try wearing a bold color instead of gray on a bad day, it'll definitely lift your spirits.

Many people know intuitively which colors suit them. So trust your own voice, because you usually hit the right colors.

You can find the common spring, summer, autumn and winter types online, but there are also many mixed types. In addition - I think that's more important - your personal character. Because a color consultation can work out that pastel colors suit you, but if you don't like them, it's of no use to you.

For example, a strong extrovert may B. wear strong colors very well. And tones that make him look pale, he leaves out, combines them with suitable ones or uses e.g. B. a scarf on it.

As an aid: 3 - max. 4 colors in the outfit are completely sufficient.

If you want more color in your closet, try small things first. A top, a flashing T-shirt, shorts instead of long pants, shoes, an accessory, nail polish or lipstick.

6. Your accessories

The details make the design. Because they bring your outfit into one league or another: sporty, elegant, suitable for business or rocking. What corresponds to your own style?

Accessories can also reflect your personal mood. Whether loud, colorful or elegant - with no other "prop" you can catapult outfits so easily into another league. Use this chance!

Shoes turn the whole style of an outfit. Pumps, sneakers or booties and everything looks different. Jewelery gives monochrome looks the necessary kick, scarves bring color into play. Jewelry sets accents. All together can make a wonderful team. Don't skimp on accessories, it's better to buy a little less and more elegant than cheap and a lot.

7. Clarity in the closet

The key to a personal, recognizable style is a well-stocked wardrobe. This gives you an overview to put together beautiful outfits. You should only have what you actually wear in your closet. Sort by genre (pants, blouses, shirts) or color - everything looks completely different.

After clearing out and sorting, you also have an overview of what runs like a red thread through your wardrobe, which could establish your personal style.

If you need help, my closet project is  interesting: Here you tidy up and combine your own clothes from scratch. With my instructions you can create 25 super outfits that you have never worn before and all without spending any money.

8. Shop smart

Shopping properly is much easier with your own style. Then you will know what is still missing. Maybe investing in new pants is important, or you need shoes and accessories. you know e.g. B. that white T-shirts are good basics for and you can now perhaps add some with prints, stripes or in other colors. Shop new items in such a way that you can combine the parts at least 3 times differently. This is how you avoid closet corpses.

Also, try out new brands: a small label boutique, thrift stores, or online shops. Especially in the sale you get great bargains and can try out the quality of new designers.

Creating the right outfits for you that make you happy and confident is not difficult. It requires a bit of willingness to experiment, clarity about one's own personality and accepting help. Because style is always a combination of your personality, body and clothing.

Have fun with it.
