5 Styling Rules for Women With Curves

No patterns, wide parts and black are the conventional tips for round women. I think that's totally out of date.

1. Start with the right underwear

Seamless underwear in the skin color nude is not sexy, but it is the best way to show off the silhouette of your clothes. Of course, lace lingerie is perfect for seduction, but this item always stands out under a flowing t-shirt or blouse. Shapewear, such as Spanx's very successful Tank Bodysuit, really cheats half a size down, flattens the tummy and smooths out the rolls.

Incidentally, men don't find such shaping underwear as unsexy as we women always think. Modern shapewear has nothing to do with grandma's bodices from the past.

2. Emphasize the right places

The key is to focus on your body's strengths. If you have an A-figure like a pear = narrower at the top than at the bottom, all tops that draw your gaze upwards and make your shoulders appear wider are suitable. Wide necklines, jewellery, patterns and decorations, embroidery on the collar or cowl necklines suit you.

On the other hand, with an X-shaped figure with an hourglass silhouette, it is very important to always accentuate the waist. Figures with a lot of belly, like the so-called O or apple type, draw attention to the cleavage and/or the often narrower hips. Long cardigans and long blazers suit you because they set vertical lines to the rounded center.

A simple, classic pump always makes your legs look longer. Pointed shapes are good for flat shoes because they make the leg slimmer and also optically lengthen it. Shoes with straps around the ankles are less good, this disrupts the natural line of the leg, especially if you're wearing dresses.

3. Rely on new proportions and perfect cuts

Not everything has to contain elastane to fit well. My recommendation is a perfectly tailored blazer that keeps everything together. Even small changes can turn a look from bulky to flattering - for example, if you shorten your skirt or pants length just a little bit.

The right sleeve length also gives the outfit a more valuable statement than rolled-up hems. I have never been able to buy a pair of pants without having to change something. So the tailor is my best friend.

4. Patterns and colors are a must

Many say that curvy women wear dark and muted tones best. Great patterns or a bright color can look very lively and attractive. Mini patterns like scattered flowers sometimes do less well, but medium to large patterns always work better.

It's all about choosing the perfect silhouette first. You sink into voluminous, patterned kaftans. So hands off it. It's better to use patterns that aren't quite as wild and emphasize your strengths.

Graphic patterns are also very often a good break from curves. And a red suit can also be made in Gr. 44 look good.

5. Never follow rules

Many customers are constrained by what curvy women can and cannot wear. Saleswomen in particular often give incorrect recommendations, since round women require more advice and are more difficult to dress.

Don't let their rules guide you and don't be afraid to try new things.
