Sleeping in Pajamas vs. Naked: Which is Healthier? The Truth Revealed Here

Sleeping in Pajamas

What are the benefits?

There are indeed quite a few benefits to wearing pajamas to bed.

Firstly, in the cold winter, wearing pajamas reduces the annoyance of getting cold after kicking off the blanket, ensuring basic warmth.

Secondly, from a hygiene perspective, wearing pajamas to sleep prevents direct contact between the skin and the sheets and blankets, helping to keep them clean (of course, if the sheets and blankets are dirty, wearing pajamas can also prevent direct contact with the skin).

The skin undergoes renewal, and many dead skin cells fall off onto clothes, sheets, and blankets. Where there are dandruff, there are often many mites, which contain special enzymes and rely on digesting these shed skin cells for survival. In addition to mites, there are also significant amounts of mite corpses, eggs, and even feces.

Sleeping in pajamas can reduce to some extent the staining of sheets and blankets by skin stains, as cleaning clothes is more convenient.

Furthermore, wearing pajamas also has a benefit that dermatologists are more familiar with—reducing the risk of transmitting skin diseases.

Many skin diseases are mainly transmitted through skin contact, such as athlete's foot (tinea pedis), nail fungus (onychomycosis), etc. They are common fungal infections that may sometimes spread through skin contact, for example, athlete's foot spreading to the thighs, resulting in jock itch, and of course, it may also spread to people sleeping together. Sleeping in pajamas can reduce the chances of transmission to a certain extent.

Naked Sleeping: What are the Benefits?

People who have experienced naked sleeping should understand the feeling of freedom of being naked. From this perspective, naked sleeping can provide emotional value, as long as it feels pleasant psychologically, it indicates that naked sleeping is beneficial.

In addition to emotional value, naked sleeping can also improve sleep quality. We know that if the body temperature slightly decreases, people will become calmer, sleep better, and fall asleep faster; if it's too hot, people will toss and turn in bed. Naked sleeping eliminates the overheating caused by pajamas and avoids the risk of affecting nighttime rest.

Moreover, naked sleeping also has some benefits for health.

For females:

Naked sleeping can to some extent reduce the risk of candidiasis infection. If wearing tight underwear or pajamas, heat will be trapped at the thighs. The relatively high temperature and non-breathable environment are more conducive to the growth and reproduction of Candida.

Naked sleeping (including wearing loose cotton underwear) can allow better airflow locally, maintain local coolness and dryness, and thereby reduce the chance of Candida infection.

For males:

Naked sleeping may improve fertility quality to some extent. This is because studies have found that when testicles are exposed to higher temperatures, the quantity of sperm decreases. There are even studies that found that males wearing boxer briefs have a higher quantity of sperm than those wearing briefs, as the former is looser.

Similarly, data from about 500 American males showed that those who wear boxer briefs during the day and nothing at night have a 25% lower risk of sperm DNA fragmentation than those who wear tight underwear day and night.

However, this claim is still controversial; some researchers believe that the above results are not universally applicable, and currently, no studies indicate that naked sleepers are more likely to conceive or conceive faster. Additionally, some scholars have summarized some previous studies and found that "there is no significant difference between underwear type and sperm quality".

Sleeping in Pajamas vs. Naked Sleeping: How to Choose?

So how do you choose between sleeping in pajamas and naked sleeping?

Actually, considering health alone, neither of these choices has an absolute health advantage, and this slight difference in health does not play a decisive role in decision-making.

Moreover, whether or not to wear clothes while sleeping is mostly not considered from a health perspective, but also includes:

Habit: Many people are not sure if pajamas are necessary, it's just a habit of wearing them or not.

Convenience: Many people don't wear pajamas because they find it troublesome to change into them before bed, they prefer to wear the clothes they wore during the day, such as a T-shirt and underwear.

Miscellaneous reasons: These are mainly some more individualized reasons, such as feeling that pajamas are too expensive, not wanting to spend money on pajamas, feeling that it is unnecessary to wear pajamas, preferring skin-to-blanket contact (rather than pajamas).

It's just like eating tofu pudding, sweet or salty, it doesn't really matter, the choice largely depends on personal experience and preferences.

In short, whether to sleep in pajamas or naked, just do whatever makes you happy!
