Master the Art of Packing Bras for Travel | Smart Tips

I'm going to show you how to fold a bra and pack it in a suitcase.

Packing Bras for Your Vacation Tips and Tricks

Now, the first thing you need to know is that non-molded bras, such as this sports bra—even an underwire but a non-molded bra—really does pack more easily and it takes up less space than a molded bra. If you've got a non-underwire, non-structured bra, it's real simple. You simply roll it up. And you might have three for your trip, but you just roll it up, and I do encourage you to put it into a little zip-top bag. Mainly because you never know when security is going to choose your bag, whether it's checked or carry-on, to examine. And this way, if my underwear is in plastic, they won't be touching it directly. But these unstructured, non-underwire bras can be rolled up very safely and then just tucked into a little corner in your suitcase.

Now, if you've got an unstructured bra but with an underwire, I stack them together and again, I put them into a zip-top bag. And you want to be sure to squish the air out of that bag. Now, these take a little bit more care in packing because there is an underwire. So, I want to make sure that I'm going to be placing it on a flat surface, or I might put it in my lid here and place it so that I know it's flat. And then I'll put more clothing on top to protect it.

Now, if you have a molded bra, actually lingerie professionals recommend that you spread the bras flat to both store them and therefore pack them. It's a little awkward, but you want to make sure that you protect the cup of the bra. So, I've actually just stuffed my socks in there and then I lay it flat. And I'm putting it on the soft side of my suitcase so it's protected underneath by some knit folded clothing, and it will be protected on top as well.

Now, that's what lingerie professionals recommend. Personally, I fold my bras to pack. I place one cup into the other. I might stack two together, and I do protect them underneath with a sock. I've been doing this for years and I haven't had any problem. But it also enables me to slip the bra into a zip-top bag, a clear plastic zip-top bag, and seal the top. Because this way, when I pack it, well, then if anybody's going to inspect my bag, they're not going to be touching my underwear directly.
