7 Simple Tips on How to Achieve Great Eye Make-up

The second part of the blog post about the secrets of natural make-up is about eye make-up. Because even with a few resources, tired or small eyes can be made to shine. The eyebrows also play an important role that is often underestimated.

As a make-up artist, Ina Mühlhaus not only does makeup for young models, but also for people like you and me with small weaknesses and strengths. Due to her many years of experience, she knows what is important and which tips are the best for easy implementation for every woman.

"Make-up is beautiful when you don't see it immediately, but emphasize your personal preferences and make a fresh, well-groomed impression."

1. Eyebrows

The eyebrow forms the frame for the eye. Their shape clearly decides on a beautiful eye make-up. It is important to know where the optimal eyebrow starts, where the highest point is and where it should end.

With the right eyebrow shape, your eyes will open up! Too much space above the nose, i.e. between the eyes, makes a tired face. A brow that is too long pulls apart and weighs down the alert expression of the eyes.

How do I find the perfect eyebrow shape for me?

You take a pencil, put it on the side of your nose and extend it towards the inner corner of your eye. That's where the eyebrows should start. You can find the highest point of the brow by placing the pencil back from the nostril over the iris of the eye.

The optimal end of the eyebrow is where the pencil runs along the outer corner of the eye and touches the brow. Of course, eyebrow shapes are subject to fashion, these indications are suitable for a classic and natural look.

What do I fill in the eyebrows with if I don't have enough?

Eyebrow pencils are often used that are too thick and make the brow look artificial.
Kajal pencils are often too soft and broad in the stroke for a hair structure, so you have to sharpen them again very quickly.
Ina recommends applying powder with a damp brush or Mac's new Shape and Shade Brow Tint Definisseur Sourcils . With light, feathery strokes, it is very easy to trace the individual hairs. It's really a great product, you just have to practice a little bit.

Where do I pluck if I have too many eyebrows?

Either you use the drawing as a template or you have your eyebrows plucked professionally and then stick to this shape.

2. "Bring light and shadow to the face" says Ina, what does that mean?

“Light emphasizes, shadow depresses. So you should put points of light where the eye needs support.

Example: A black kajal on the lower moist eyelid makes the eye smaller. If you wear a cream-colored eye white pencil instead, it opens the eyes. Such pens are cheap in drugstores, but they usually don't last very long because the moisture in the eye "washes away" the color. But a freshness kick is guaranteed!

A bit of shine in the inner corner of the eye is always nice because it opens!!! To do this, you can simply take light eye shadow (cream, silver or gold) and dab a small amount into the inner corner of the eye with your ring finger.

3. Eyeshadow

Shiny, iridescent eyeshadow colors are not suitable for every woman because the lustrous particles get into every pore and every little wrinkle. Matt colors are therefore generally more suitable for women of a somewhat advanced age.
You can put GLOSS points very well in the inner corners of the eyes (see picture above) or under the eyebrows to achieve a more alert look - that opens the eyes.

Which eyeshadow colors suit me?

For an eye make-up that is personally tailored to you, you usually need 3 brushes, 3 colors and, depending on the shape of your eyes and any droopy eyelids, a very individual consultation.

Only the basic basics for each eye color can be given in this blog post. But they are very valuable, or did you know that you should definitely work with complementary colors when it comes to eyeshadow?

4. Blue eyes

You have blue eyes - wonderful!
Your complementary color, which makes the blue shine particularly brightly, is orange. But since orange looks a little too colorful and shrill, a copper tone or rusty brown would fit. With this color you outline the eye (like with an eyeliner) above and below only up to the back third, see drawing.

Ina recommends Mac eyeshadows (which I personally really appreciate) because they are highly pigmented, last a long time and you don't need much. You can also use it wet. However, the advice at Mac is not always great, because the often young girls have very fashionable and exaggerated ideas about make-up. So try to find a good advisor or just try it yourself.

The following colors are good for blue eyes: Antiqued Coppering and Coppering Mulch, which is a copper tone and a rusty brown.

(The exact display of the color will look slightly different depending on the calibration of your screen/smartphone, so check the colors in a Mac store or perfumery to be sure.)

5. Green eyes

If you have green eyes, your complementary color is red. But red eyeshadow gives the impression that you've been crying. An aubergine-colored tone, on the other hand, makes your green eyes shine particularly beautifully.

The following colors are good for green eyes:

Why this works so well with the complementary colors:

Imagine a green granny apple on a red cloth or alternatively on a green lawn. It comes into its own much better on the red cloth - it disappears much more on the green cloth.

Therefore, green eye shadow is not necessarily conducive to green eyes. The same goes for blue eyeshadows to blue eyes. Work with complementary colors!

If you have green-grey or blue-grey eyes, the part of the color that is more visible = blue or green counts.

6. Brown and gray eyes

Congratulations! You have the free choice! Because there is no complementary color to your eye color. You can choose from aubergine, violet, copper, brown, gray or whatever you like.

Many manufacturers, including MAC, have eyeshadow palettes that you can fill with your own favorite colors. In my opinion this is the best solution. 4 colors are enough. You could add cream and black and you would have several wonderful combinations. 6 pallets are also possible.

7. Mascara

In addition to the emphasizing eye make-up, mascara is an essential part of a well made-up eye. In 90% of cases, black mascara is perfect for emphasizing the lashes. Brown ink is a better choice for very pale skin types. There is a 2-phase mascara that thickens and fills in first before applying the actual color. Such products are great because they naturally make fine and short lashes look bigger and longer. Ina recommends this Loreal product , which I also know and appreciate very much.

AND WHAT ABOUT LIPSTICK?
There is already an extra post about this , because in my opinion lipstick is always part of a well-groomed make-up.
Whether you prefer to keep it subtle with a rosewood tone, eye-catching with tomato red or dramatic with a plum tone is up to you. I personally like to use the lipsticks called Chubby Stick from Clinique in everyday life: These are actually lip care sticks that contain color and can be applied quickly without having to be in front of the mirror. They give a slight kick of freshness and are available in different tones and strengths. But of course they don't replace the intense long-lasting splash of color on the mouth that can change so much in your outfit.

If you would like to place yourself in the hands of a professional like Ina Mühlhaus,

she will personally show you step by step how to find your personal day make-up. How to apply make-up to your eyes, cheeks and lips: She will apply make-up to one half of your face, and you will apply make-up to the other half = learning by doing.

You get personal sketches and clear product recommendations, a lot of know-how and no 0815 drugstore advice. An investment in a little guide and have fun with your great appearance.
