Plus Size Dos and Don'ts

Plus Size Dos and Don'ts

Dressing large sizes is a challenge, I'll be honest about that and I can sing a song about it myself. In many shops, whether it's H&M or Gucci, the good selection ends at size 42 - and that often turns out to be a 40.

So what to do? Experience makes a lot, try it out and get competent advice. Unfortunately, there are very few saleswomen who wear a large size themselves - and therefore have no feeling for the special challenges of plus size. But a lot is happening in the market. In the online area there is now great plus-size fashion to shop for, the offers have become much larger, more unusual and better.

Unfortunately, there is no advice whatsoever. I've tried many things and discovered, for example, very good jeans at Violeta/Mango at great prices. But they don't fit every figure, that's for sure.

Diversity is wonderful!

How boring would our life be if we all looked the same? I have never had a client who had the same figure as someone else before. But of course these different figure types lead to one or the other fashion problem.

There is no wrong figure, only wrong clothes!

It is difficult to make a general statement about which cuts suit you. But many women don't even know whether they have an X, Y or O shape, for example, or whether they have particularly narrow legs or a long upper body. So, first rule: recognize your body type.

There are the O-types with a lot of belly and breasts - they often need flowing tops with a large neckline, straight shoulders and longer jackets to set vertical lines to the rounded torso.

A or pear figures with a narrow torso but wide buttocks and hips can emphasize their upper body by consistently wearing uni-colored matte bottoms around the bottom.

For example, there is the long V-size in 48 with a strong swimmer's back - softly falling tops with a V-neckline and oversized shoulders suit her very well.

Or small women with size 46 and curvy X-waist. You should still emphasize them and not sink into bags, otherwise they will become a thick pillar.

Accentuate your own curves correctly.

On the subject of baggy bags: nowadays you should no longer hide your body under a baggy cover or a lot of black clothing, but put your positive sides in the foreground and play with the proportions. This not only makes you look slimmer and more proportioned, but also much more self-confident.

I'm always asked if there's a certain key piece that you can wear often - that always works and is still popular years later. I like to recommend a classic dark dress with a beautiful and tasteful décolleté. It is timeless and feminine and you can style it in many different ways.

THE MAIN DOS FOR LARGE SIZES:

1. A deep V-neck emphasizes your cleavage
2. Straight set sleeves are often much better for your silhouette than dropped shoulders
3. Large and interesting statement necklaces to emphasize cleavage
4. Tops that tuck into pants or skirts easily tucked in to then fall loosely over it = that lengthens the legs
5. Layering look with long jackets and knitwear
6. Horizontal stripes on T-shirts work and don't make you wide, especially if you wear them under jackets
7. High-cut Pants gamble away the belly rings
8. Narrow-cut fabric pants work with all figure types
9. Dark jeans with a high waist are true evergreens
10. Platform shoes are comfortable, stretch your legs, and go with many bottoms

THE MAIN DON'TS FOR BIG SIZES:

1. Only black and gray can look a bit dull in the long run
2. High-necked collars and Peter Pan necklines look unflattering
3. With large breasts: no pockets on the blouses
4. Skinny jeans with a high proportion of stretch, they make transverse folds
5. Wide culottes or capris make not nice proportions
6. Bootcut jeans with flat ballerinas compress the legs
7. Opaque leggings only work under long kaftans or straight-cut dresses up to mid-thigh
8. Bomber jackets or oversized blousons can look unflatteringly round
9. Stiff materials for tops are unsuitable.

Large size brands:

Of course I would like to give you some labels and maybe there are some that you don't know yet. I'm not an editor and I don't make money from linking. But you can certainly find the plus-size fashion brands by googling.
