Formula for Bra Fitting: 6 Tips for Trying on a Bra

Regardless of your size, shape, or preferences, a bra should fit perfectly. Of course, perfection depends on your preferences and tastes—some want to lift their breasts to the maximum, while others wish to emphasize the natural shape of their breasts. Some may need a tight cup, while others prefer a softer one. Despite the variety of shapes and designs, there are 6 universal bra-fitting tips to follow when choosing any bra. This methodology is proposed by the American bra fitter Ali Caddy. It's best to follow them sequentially:

1. Start with the Band: The band is the foundation of bra fitting. It should fit you snugly but not be too tight. When trying on a new bra, always fasten the band on the closest hook (the loosest setting) as the band will stretch over time, and you'll use the tighter hooks later.

Also, check in the mirror to ensure that the band is parallel to the ground—absolutely horizontal. If it rides up, either loosen the straps or try a smaller band size.

 2. Evaluate the Underwire Width: The underwire should match the base size of your breasts and not be too wide or too short. If the underwire digs into your breasts, stop and try another bra. If the underwire ends on the sides before your breasts or goes into your armpits, it's a sign of improperly fitted lingerie.

When viewed from the top, there should be no gap between the breasts and the cups. The opposite effect occurs when the cup is too small, creating the illusion of the breasts being divided into two parts.
bra fitting test4. Check the Bridge Position: The bridge is the central part of the bra that connects the cups. Its flat surface should snugly adhere to the body, with no gap between the bridge and the body. The bridge should not climb onto the breasts or shift during movements, which can happen if it's too wide or too high for you.
bra fitting test5. Relax the Straps: Ideally, a well-fitting bra should be supported by the band, not just the straps. The straps should be as relaxed as possible but should not slip off your shoulders. Try pulling the straps off your shoulders to see if the bra stays in place. If it doesn't, you may have chosen a band size that is too large. Then tighten the straps to ensure they stay in place during movements and bends.

6. Determine the Shape: The final step is to assess how the bra fits the shape of your breasts. Each woman has unique features—uneven breasts, broad shoulders, significant sagging, etc. At this stage, you need to evaluate the fit of the lingerie considering all your individual characteristics. If you plan to wear this bra under tight clothing, make sure to see how it looks under that attire.
