19 Tricks you can use to solve your bra problems

Is it difficult for you to find a comfortable bra or do you find that every bra you try on pinches or fits poorly? No problem. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions and our Tips&Tricks guide for answers to most questions.

1. Straps slip off your shoulders all the time.

If they slip because they've stretched and lost their elasticity, buy a new bra. If you have narrow or sloping shoulders and the straps are already shortened accordingly, there are bras where the straps sit extra close together in the back, called no-slip straps. Try to avoid balconette models, where the straps are usually placed further out.

2. The straps cut into the shoulders or leave pressure points.

The straps are shortened too much. Adjust the straps so that you can slide a fingertip between the strap and the shoulder without any problems. 80% of the support a bra gives your bust should come from the underbust band that hugs your body.

3. The bra slides up when I stretch my arms up.

You are wearing a bra with too much underbust band. If you bought the bra in the right size and haven't lost weight, it's probably because it has stretched over time.

4. The bra is cutting into your back.

If a bra is so tight that it is uncomfortable or cuts in, you are wearing a bra with too small an underbust measurement. Try a larger size. If you wear the right size but find that more rolls form than usual, choose a model with a broader back.

5. The bra pinches under the bust.

See the answer above. The underbust size of the bra is too small.

6. The underwire presses on the sternum.

You are probably wearing the wrong cup size or a bra that is too tight on your body. An underwire should never be uncomfortable. If you are wearing the right size, try another model where the underwires go up less or where the underwires meet at a different angle.

7. The underwire pinches the side of your chest.

You are wearing too small a cup size or your bust is wide at the bottom. Try a larger cup size. If wrinkles form, try a minimizer with extra-wide, flat cups.

8. The bra does not lie close to the body between the breasts, but floats.

This is often because the underbust band of the bra is too wide or the cups are not deep enough, causing a gap to form between the underbust band and the body. When you wear an underwire bra, the underwires should fit close to the body and divide the bust.

9. One cup will cover one breast more and sit higher than the other, even though the straps are the same length on both sides.

Your breasts are of different sizes, which is very common. The smaller breast does not fill the cup properly. This is sometimes not noticeable when you look at yourself in the mirror. Try using an insert in the cup that sits higher up.

10. The breasts are compressed in the bra.

You are probably wearing a bra with cups that are too flat or too small. It is more common for a so-called uniboob to form in underwire bras, while underwire bras usually divide the bust. Why not try on an underwired bra? If you have a large cup size, we recommend choosing a bra with sewn instead of molded cups.

11. The breasts form a "double bust" in the bra.

If your breasts are pushed over the top of the cups, forming two "extra breasts", this is because you are wearing a bra with too small a cup size.

12. The breasts fall out of the bra when I bend forward.

You are wearing a cup size that is too large. Try a bra with the same underbust size but with a smaller cup size.

13. Breasts sag even though I am wearing the correct bra size.

If your breasts are sagging more than you'd like even though you're wearing a bra, it's probably because your bra has seen its best days and has stretched too much, or because the bra you're wearing doesn't provide enough support. The differences between bras and bras are huge. Choose a bra with extra support in the under cups, a sturdy model whose cups, or at least the under cups, are made of solid material and that has a wide back that fits tightly against your body.

14. Breasts are of different sizes.

Buy the bra in the size that is right for the larger breast and test an insert to fill the other cup. Try a contour bra if you don't want to use an insert. It has fully padded, molded cups that have a predefined, round shape to conceal the fact that one breast doesn't quite fill the cup.

15. The nipple can be seen above the edge of the bra.

If the cup size is correct, but the nipple is still visible above the edge, the cups of the model you are wearing are cut too flat. Try a bra with a full cup.

16. The cups form folds.

You are wearing a bra with too large a cup size. If the cups form wrinkles at the very top, it may be due to the shape of the bust. Most natural, non-operated breasts are not as full or firm at the top as they are at the bottom. In this case, try a bra with an elastic material in the upper cups.

17. I sweat in my bra.

Try cups made of functional material, such as Keep Fresh or Spacer, which allows the skin to breathe and wicks away moisture. Natural fibres like cotton let the skin breathe but can feel damp because they absorb moisture.

18. The new bra is too tight, even though I bought the exact same model in the same size as the old bra.

The old bra has stretched and moulded to your body and no longer fits the size indicated on the sizing label. Perhaps you have gained a little weight and the bra has adjusted. Most bras are elastic in the back and some even have elastic cups.

19. The seams rub against your nipples.

Try a bra with molded cups. If you prefer seams, choose a bra with flat seams so there are no seams against the nipple. Another option is a model with fully padded cups.

Conclusion

Although old bras with problems are sometimes easy to fix, a new fitting bra will be better for our breasts. Normally, women should re-choose new bras every 3-6 months. This is because 3-6 months may change a woman's body shape and she should buy new suitable bras according to the changes in her body shape. Even if the bra is usually well protected, the average life span of a bra should not exceed 6 months, and regular replacement of lingerie is also necessary to protect women's health.
