Why You Should Change Your Underwear Every Day
According to a recent survey of over a thousand women, 21% of them wear the same underwear for “several days”. This habit is discouraged for hygiene reasons. One in ten women wear the same panties for 3 days or more.
In general, men are not accustomed to the principle of changing underwear daily, but some women as well. According to a survey conducted by The Derm Review, it seems that 21% of women wear the same underwear for “several days”.
One in ten women would not change panties for three days or more. About 33% of those surveyed would keep their bras longer than advised. The figure would be even higher among 35 to 44 year olds (38%).
A Very Bad Habit
It is considered “normal” to change panties every day. It’s a basic hygiene principle, taught from childhood. Keeping the same underwear for more than a day is a very bad habit. Experts have pointed out that dirty lingerie is favorable to bacteria.
Elle Macleman, a skincare biochemist, acknowledges that by wearing the same underwear for more than a day, the amount of laundry decreases. However, she mentioned the negative side of this practice. Do not forget “the health risks of infections, irritations, abnormal discharges and rashes”, notes the Yahoo site.
An Accumulation of Bacteria
Dr. Nichola Cosgrove, a skin care specialist at Natura Emporium, confirms. “By not changing underwear every day, you will start to have an accumulation of bacteria…”. These can be useful “when they remain at their required levels”. But they tend to multiply abnormally in a warm and humid environment.
The risk of thrush, vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis is greater by keeping underwear in bed. To avoid the proliferation of microbes, experts recommend changing panties and bras every day. It is also advised to remove them at night.
